Beloved Barry Island chippy announces plan to close in the new year

After 13 years of loyal service, Boofy’s, the iconic café that has been a staple in the background of the hit TV show Gavin & Stacey, is closing its doors for good. This news has left fans devastated, as the café has become a beloved landmark and a part of the show’s charm.

Located in the picturesque seaside town of Barry Island, Boofy’s has been a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Its cozy atmosphere and delicious food have made it a must-visit for anyone in the area. But it was its role in the beloved BBC comedy that truly put Boofy’s on the map.

For those who are not familiar with the show, Gavin & Stacey follows the lives of two families from different parts of the UK, and the love story of their titular characters. The show has a cult following and has been praised for its heartwarming and relatable humor. Boofy’s, with its quirky décor and friendly staff, has been a constant presence in the show, providing a warm and welcoming backdrop for many memorable scenes.

Over the years, Boofy’s has seen its fair share of ups and downs. From the show’s humble beginnings in 2007, the café has witnessed the rise to fame of its stars, James Corden and Ruth Jones, who also co-created and wrote the show. It has also experienced its fair share of challenges, including a devastating flood in 2008 that almost forced it to shut down permanently. But through it all, Boofy’s has remained a beacon of hope and a symbol of the show’s enduring success.

The news of Boofy’s closure has been met with an outpouring of love and support from fans all over the world. Many have taken to social media to share their memories and express their sadness at the café’s closing. Some have even planned trips to Barry Island to visit Boofy’s one last time before it shuts its doors for good.

But amidst the sadness, there is also a sense of gratitude and appreciation for everything Boofy’s has brought to the show and its fans. In a heartfelt statement, the creators of Gavin & Stacey, Corden and Jones, expressed their love for Boofy’s and its role in the show. They also thanked the café’s owners and staff for their unwavering support and dedication.

As for the future of Boofy’s, there are talks of turning it into a museum to honor its place in the show’s history. The café’s owners have also hinted at the possibility of reopening in a different location, but for now, nothing is certain.

One thing is for sure, Boofy’s will be greatly missed. Its warm and welcoming atmosphere, delicious food, and memorable appearances in Gavin & Stacey will forever be cherished by fans. It has not only been a café but a home away from home for many. Farewell Boofy’s, thank you for the memories.
