Exclusive — Rep. Chip Roy: Congress Blocking Bipartisan Effort to Crack Down on Congressional Stock Trading

On Thursday’s episode of “The Alex Marlow Show,” Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) joined as a guest to discuss the ongoing efforts to restrict congressional stock trading. Roy, who has been a vocal advocate for this cause, expressed his frustration with the lack of progress in implementing these restrictions.

“We’ve got 90 co-sponsors on one bill…on a bipartisan basis. That is massive growth,” Roy stated. “We’re seeing changes, but I’ll tell you, there’s still a lot of resistance within the halls of Congress.”

The issue of congressional stock trading has been a controversial topic for years, with many accusing lawmakers of using their privileged positions for personal financial gain. This has led to a growing public distrust in the government and calls for stricter regulations.

In response to this, Roy and his colleagues have been working tirelessly to introduce legislation that would prohibit members of Congress from buying or selling individual stocks. This bipartisan effort has gained significant support, with 90 co-sponsors already on board.

However, despite this progress, Roy revealed that there is still resistance within Congress to pass these measures. “We have leadership that doesn’t want to move this legislation,” he stated. “They’re trying to figure out how to make it go away.”

This reluctance to address the issue has only fueled the public’s frustration and skepticism towards the government. But Roy remains determined to push for change and hold his fellow lawmakers accountable.

“We have a responsibility to the American people to show them that we’re not here to enrich ourselves,” Roy emphasized. “We’re here to serve them and their interests.”

The issue of congressional stock trading has gained even more attention in recent months, with several lawmakers coming under scrutiny for their questionable stock transactions. This has only reinforced the urgent need for stricter regulations and transparency within Congress.

Roy and his colleagues are not only fighting for the trust of the American people, but also for the integrity of the government. As elected officials, it is their duty to prioritize the interests of the public over their own personal gain.

“We need to make sure that the American people know that we’re not here to make money off of our positions,” Roy asserted. “We’re here to serve them and their interests.”

The growing support for these measures is a promising sign that change is on the horizon. But it is also a reminder that there is still much work to be done in restoring the public’s trust in their government.

In the end, it is up to Congress to take action and pass legislation that will hold its members accountable and prevent any conflicts of interest. The American people deserve a government that works for them, not against them.

As Roy aptly put it, “We have to get this done because the American people deserve it and our democracy depends on it.” Let us hope that Congress will heed these words and take the necessary steps to address this pressing issue.
