Marlow: Virginia Election Is ‘Not a Referendum on Trump’

Tuesday’s election results in Virginia were a major topic of discussion on Fox News Channel’s “Ingraham Angle” where Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow shared his thoughts on the race for governor. The highly anticipated race between former Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) and Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (R-VA) ended with Spanberger claiming victory. However, according to Marlow, this outcome was not a reflection of President Donald Trump’s influence on the election.

In recent years, elections in the United States have become increasingly polarized and often portrayed as a battle between the Democratic and Republican parties. This has led to an unfortunate trend where candidates are labeled as either pro or anti-Trump, regardless of their actual policies and positions. However, Marlow believes that the Virginia election was not a simple referendum on President Trump.

Despite the media’s attempts to portray the race as a contest between pro and anti-Trump candidates, Marlow argues that it was about much more than that. He pointed out that Spanberger’s campaign focused on local issues such as education, healthcare, and the economy – factors that are important to Virginians, regardless of their political affiliation.

Moreover, as Marlow rightly points out, Lt. Gov. Earle-Sears was not running as a proxy for Trump. She was a strong candidate in her own right, with a commendable record of public service and a clear vision for the future of Virginia. In fact, she herself has acknowledged that she does not fully align with the former President’s policies. Yet, the media and her opponents attempted to paint her as a Trump loyalist, further perpetuating the false narrative that this election was all about Trump.

But the truth is that this election was not about Trump. It was about the people of Virginia and their priorities. It was a chance for them to make their voices heard and choose a leader who they believe will best represent their interests. And that is exactly what they did. They voted for Spanberger, not because she was anti or pro-Trump, but because they believed in her vision and her ability to bring about positive change in their community.

This is not to say that President Trump’s influence was completely absent in the race. Of course, his endorsement and support for Earle-Sears did play a role in the election. However, it was not the determining factor. In fact, many political experts argue that Virginia has been trending towards the Democrats for some time now and this result is not entirely surprising.

So, let us not reduce this election to a simple pro or anti-Trump narrative. Let us acknowledge the complexities and nuances of politics and give credit where credit is due. Congratulations to Spanberger on her well-deserved win, and kudos to Earle-Sears for running a strong and principled campaign. This election was a testament to the strength of democracy and the power of the people to choose their leaders based on issues that matter to them.

As we move forward, let us hope for a more civil and productive political discourse that focuses on the actual policies and ideas of candidates, rather than basing their worth solely on their alignment with a particular person or party. Let us also remember that elections are not just about winning or losing, but about coming together as a community and working towards a better future for all.

In conclusion, the Virginia election was not a referendum on Trump, but rather a reflection of the diverse voices and priorities of the people of Virginia. Let us embrace this diversity and continue to strive towards a more inclusive and prosperous future for our nation.
