IOC and SEGA announce multi−year licensing agreement featuring Sonic the Hedgehog

06 October 2025 – The International Olympic Committee and SEGA CORPORATION are excited to announce a new partnership that will bring together the world of sports and gaming. This multi-year licensing deal, signed by both parties, is set to launch a co-branded Olympic video game series that will be available across multiple platforms.

The announcement was made by IOC President, Thomas Bach, and SEGA CEO, Haruki Satomi, at a press conference held at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. Both expressed their enthusiasm for this groundbreaking collaboration and the potential it holds for the future of sports and gaming.

The idea of an Olympic video game series has been in the works for years, with many fans and athletes alike expressing their desire for an immersive gaming experience that reflects the excitement and spirit of the Olympics. With this partnership, that dream is now a reality.

The new co-branded Olympic video game series will feature a wide range of Olympic sports, from swimming to track and field, allowing players to compete as their favorite athletes and experience the thrill of the games in a whole new way. The game will also include an interactive Olympic Village, where players can customize their avatars and participate in various training activities.

But this partnership goes beyond just creating a fun and entertaining game. The IOC and SEGA are committed to promoting the values of the Olympic Movement and inspiring the next generation of athletes. The game will feature educational elements that highlight the history and significance of the Olympic Games, as well as virtual challenges that encourage players to stay active and lead a healthy lifestyle.

The decision to partner with SEGA was an easy one for the IOC, as the company has a long history of creating high-quality games that are enjoyed by people of all ages. SEGA’s dedication to innovation and their commitment to delivering a top-notch gaming experience align perfectly with the values of the Olympic Movement.

“We are thrilled to be working with SEGA to bring the Olympic experience to a new level,” said President Bach. “This partnership will not only engage current fans of the Olympic Games, but also introduce new audiences to the excitement and values of the Olympic Movement.”

CEO Satomi echoed these sentiments, stating, “It is an honor to be chosen by the IOC to create a co-branded Olympic video game series. We are excited to combine our expertise in gaming with the global appeal of the Olympic Games to create a one-of-a-kind experience for players.”

The release date for the first game in the series is set for the summer of 2026, just in time for the next Winter Olympics. Fans can expect to see their favorite Olympic sports and athletes represented in stunning graphics and gameplay, making it an immersive and unforgettable experience.

This partnership between the IOC and SEGA has already generated a lot of buzz and excitement among fans and industry experts alike. As technology continues to advance, the possibilities for this co-branded Olympic video game series are endless. It has the potential to become a staple in the gaming world and a must-have for any sports fan.

So mark your calendars for the summer of 2026 and get ready to experience the thrill of the Olympics like never before. The future of sports and gaming has arrived, and it’s a partnership between the International Olympic Committee and SEGA CORPORATION.
