DOJ Lists over 30 Sanctuary Cities, States Impeding Law Enforcement

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has recently released a list of more than 30 sanctuary cities, states, and counties in the United States that have been identified as impeding law enforcement and putting Americans at risk. This move by the DOJ is a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of the American people.

Sanctuary cities, states, and counties are those that have policies in place to limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities. These policies often include not honoring detainer requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and not allowing local law enforcement to inquire about an individual’s immigration status. While these policies may have been implemented with good intentions, they have had serious consequences for public safety.

The DOJ’s list includes cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, as well as states like California and New Jersey. These cities and states have been identified as impeding law enforcement by not fully cooperating with federal immigration authorities. This lack of cooperation has resulted in dangerous criminals being released back into the community, putting innocent Americans at risk.

In a statement, Attorney General Jeff Sessions stated, “The Department of Justice will not stand by while sanctuary cities put the safety and security of American citizens at risk. These policies not only violate federal law, but they also make it harder for our law enforcement officers to do their jobs effectively.” This strong stance by the DOJ sends a clear message that the safety of American citizens is a top priority.

The release of this list is just one of the many actions taken by the DOJ to address the issue of sanctuary cities. In addition to the list, the DOJ has also filed lawsuits against these cities and states for their non-compliance with federal immigration laws. This is a crucial step towards holding these jurisdictions accountable for their actions.

The consequences of sanctuary city policies have been seen firsthand in tragic incidents such as the murder of Kate Steinle in San Francisco by an illegal immigrant who had been previously deported multiple times. This is just one example of the dangers that arise when jurisdictions fail to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

The DOJ’s actions have been met with praise from many, including President Trump who has been a vocal advocate for cracking down on sanctuary cities. In a tweet, the President stated, “The Department of Justice is doing a great job on our Sanctuary Cities policies. Fight hard for our citizens and we will win!”

It is important to note that the DOJ’s actions are not targeting immigrants, but rather focusing on those who have committed crimes and pose a threat to public safety. The DOJ is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that our communities are safe for all Americans.

In conclusion, the release of the list by the DOJ is a significant step towards addressing the issue of sanctuary cities and ensuring the safety and security of the American people. The DOJ’s actions send a strong message that non-compliance with federal immigration laws will not be tolerated. It is time for these sanctuary cities, states, and counties to put the safety of their citizens first and work with federal authorities to uphold the rule of law. As Americans, we must stand together in support of these efforts to keep our communities safe.
