Knudsen: Trump Administration Gives Americans What They Want in Ignoring Pride Month

As June 1st arrived, I was completely unaware that it marked the beginning of what society has deemed as “pride month.” It wasn’t until I saw a few posts on social media and some rainbow-colored merchandise in stores that I realized what was happening. And to be honest, I was surprised. Surprised that I hadn’t heard more about it, surprised that it wasn’t being celebrated with the same fervor as other holidays or events.

But then, I remembered the current political climate and it all made sense. The Trump administration has made it clear that they have no interest in acknowledging or supporting the LGBTQ+ community. And while this may disappoint some, I find it incredibly refreshing and empowering.

Let me explain.

As a society, we have become accustomed to having our opinions and beliefs validated by those in power. We look to our leaders for guidance and direction, and we expect them to align with our own personal values and beliefs. But what happens when they don’t? What happens when their actions go against everything we stand for?

In the case of the Trump administration and their lack of recognition for pride month, it has sparked a powerful response from the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. Instead of waiting for validation from those in power, they have taken matters into their own hands and created a movement that is more powerful and meaningful than any proclamation from the government could ever be.

Pride month is not just about celebrating who you are and who you love, although that is certainly a big part of it. It’s about standing up for your rights and demanding to be seen and heard. It’s about showing the world that you are not going to be silenced or pushed aside.

And that is exactly what the LGBTQ+ community is doing. They are taking this opportunity to raise their voices and make a statement – a statement that says they will not be ignored or discriminated against. They are showing the world that they are proud of who they are and they will not back down.

In a time when hate and division seem to be prevalent, the LGBTQ+ community is spreading a message of love and acceptance. They are showing that diversity should be celebrated, not feared. And while the Trump administration may choose to ignore pride month, the rest of us can choose to embrace it and support the community.

It’s easy to get caught up in the negativity and division that seems to dominate the news these days. But let’s not forget that there is still so much good in the world. There are still people fighting for what they believe in and standing up for what is right. And that is exactly what the LGBTQ+ community is doing.

So, while the Trump administration may choose to ignore pride month, I choose to celebrate it. I choose to stand with the LGBTQ+ community and show my support and love for all those who identify as part of it. And I encourage others to do the same.

Because at the end of the day, love will always win. And that is something to be proud of.
