Sikkim government declares rainfall damage in Mangan district a ‘disaster’

The state Chief Secretary R Telang recently visited the Mangan district to review the disaster situation caused by continuous rainfall, landslides, and disruption in connectivity. As the state government’s topmost bureaucrat, Mr. Telang’s visit was crucial in assessing the extent of damage and coming up with a comprehensive plan to help the affected areas.

The Mangan district, located in the northern part of the state, has been facing relentless rainfall for the past few weeks, which has triggered several landslides. This has not only caused severe damage to infrastructure but has also led to the disruption of essential services and communication lines. The situation has been worsened by the inaccessibility of the district due to blocked roads and damaged bridges.

During his visit, Mr. Telang first met with the district officials and took stock of the situation. He also interacted with the locals and listened to their grievances. He assured them of all possible assistance from the state government to help them overcome this crisis. The Chief Secretary also took a tour of the affected areas to get a first-hand experience of the ground reality.

After a thorough assessment, Mr. Telang directed the district administration to expedite the relief and rescue operations. He stressed on the need for swift action and coordination between various departments to ensure timely help to the affected people. The Chief Secretary also instructed the officials to provide adequate medical facilities and food supplies to the affected areas.

Mr. Telang also instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to immediately start the repair work of damaged roads and bridges. He assured that the state government would provide all necessary resources and funds for the same. The Chief Secretary also directed the Electricity Department to restore power supply to the affected areas at the earliest.

The state government has also taken measures to ensure the safety of the people living in the low-lying areas. The district administration has been instructed to evacuate them and shift them to safer locations. The government has also set up relief camps in schools and community centers to provide shelter to the affected people.

The Chief Secretary also urged the locals to stay vigilant and follow the instructions of the authorities. He emphasized the need for proper planning and preparedness to mitigate the effects of natural disasters. Mr. Telang also commended the efforts of the disaster response teams and volunteers who have been working tirelessly to provide relief to the affected people.

The state government has also sought help from the Indian Army to assist in the rescue and relief operations. The Army has deployed its personnel and equipment to the affected areas and has been actively involved in helping the locals.

Mr. Telang has assured the Chief Minister and the people of the state that the government is committed to providing all necessary help to the affected areas. He also urged the people to come forward and contribute to the relief efforts in any way possible.

In conclusion, the visit of Chief Secretary R Telang to the Mangan district has given a boost to the relief and rescue operations. His proactive approach and swift actions have instilled hope and confidence in the minds of the affected people. The state government, under the guidance of the Chief Minister, is leaving no stone unturned to provide relief to the affected areas. With the collective efforts of the government and the people, we are confident that the Mangan district will soon overcome this crisis and emerge even stronger.
