Maher: Emanuel, Newsom, Buttigieg Will Run in ’28, Are Already ‘Moving’ to Center

On Friday’s episode of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher made a bold prediction about the future of the Democratic Party. According to Maher, three prominent politicians – former U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg – will be running for president in 2028 and are already making moves towards the center.

Maher’s prediction came during a discussion about the current state of the Democratic Party and the potential candidates for the 2024 presidential election. He argued that the party needs to move towards the center in order to win back voters who may have been turned off by the more progressive policies of the past few years.

Emanuel, Newsom, and Buttigieg are all well-known figures in the Democratic Party and have held prominent positions in government. Emanuel served as the Chief of Staff for former President Barack Obama and was also the Mayor of Chicago. Newsom is the current Governor of California and has been praised for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state. Buttigieg, who ran for president in 2020, was the first openly gay person to win a presidential primary.

Maher’s prediction may come as a surprise to some, as all three politicians have been seen as more progressive in their policies. However, Maher argued that they are already making moves towards the center in order to appeal to a wider range of voters.

“Rahm Emanuel, Gavin Newsom, and Pete Buttigieg are all moving towards the center,” Maher said. “They’re already doing it. They’re already talking about things like fiscal responsibility, law and order, and national security.”

Maher’s prediction also aligns with recent shifts in the Democratic Party. In the 2020 election, Democrats lost seats in the House of Representatives and failed to gain control of the Senate. This has led to calls for the party to re-evaluate its messaging and policies in order to appeal to a broader base of voters.

While some may see this move towards the center as a betrayal of progressive values, Maher argued that it is necessary in order for the party to win back voters and regain control of the government.

“We need to win elections,” Maher said. “And in order to do that, we need to appeal to a wider range of voters. We can’t just be the party of the coasts and the cities. We need to reach out to the middle of the country.”

Maher’s prediction has already sparked speculation and discussion among political commentators and voters. Some have praised his insight and believe that these three politicians could be the key to a Democratic victory in 2028. Others have criticized the idea, arguing that the party should stick to its progressive values and not compromise in order to win elections.

Only time will tell if Maher’s prediction will come true, but one thing is for sure – the Democratic Party is in need of a strong and united front in order to win back the trust of voters and lead the country towards a brighter future. Whether it’s through these three politicians or others, the party must find a way to appeal to a wider range of voters and work towards a common goal.
