Gone But Not Forgotten: Musicians We Lost in 2026

From Neil Sedaka to Bob Weir, John Forté and beyond, Billboard remembers the artists who left us this year. It’s a sad reality that we have to say goodbye to some of our favorite musicians, but their legacies will continue to live on through their music. These artists have left an indelible mark on the music industry and will always hold a special place in the hearts of their fans.

One of the most beloved artists we lost this year was Neil Sedaka. The singer-songwriter and pianist had a career spanning over six decades and was known for his hits such as “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” and “Calendar Girl”. Sedaka’s music was a staple in the 1950s and 1960s and his catchy tunes still hold a special place in our hearts today. His smooth vocals and relatable lyrics made him a fan favorite and his music will continue to be loved for generations to come.

Another legend we lost this year was Bob Weir, founding member of the iconic band, Grateful Dead. Weir’s unique guitar playing and soulful voice were a defining factor in the band’s success. He was also known for his solo career and collaborations with other musicians, proving his versatility as an artist. Weir will always be remembered as a pioneer in the psychedelic rock scene and his music will continue to inspire generations of musicians.

John Forté was another talented artist we lost this year. The singer, rapper, and producer rose to fame in the 1990s with his band The Fugees. He later pursued a solo career and collaborated with big names in the industry such as Carly Simon and Talib Kweli. Forté’s music was a fusion of hip hop, reggae, and soul, making him stand out in the music industry. He will be remembered for his unique style and the impact he made on the music scene.

But it’s not just the big names that we lost this year, there were also several up-and-coming artists who left us too soon. These young musicians were just starting to make a name for themselves and it’s heartbreaking to see their potential cut short. However, their music will continue to live on and inspire others to follow their dreams.

It’s important to remember these artists not just for their music, but also for the impact they had on society. Through their music, they addressed important social and political issues, spreading messages of love, peace, and unity. They used their platform to bring about change and their contributions will never be forgotten.

As we say farewell to these talented individuals, we must also celebrate their achievements and the joy they brought into our lives through their music. Let’s honor their legacy by keeping their music alive and passing it on to future generations. They may be gone, but their music will continue to live on and inspire us.

In the words of the late Bob Marley, “The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.” These artists have truly left a positive impact on the world through their music and we will forever be grateful for their contributions.

So as we bid adieu to Neil Sedaka, Bob Weir, John Forté and the other artists we lost this year, let’s remember them with love and gratitude. They may have left us physically, but their music will always be with us, reminding us of their talent, passion, and the beautiful memories they left behind. Rest in peace and thank you for the music.
