Songwriter Billy Steinberg’s Biggest Billboard Hot 100 Hits: ‘Like a Virgin’ & More

Legendary producer and songwriter, William E. Steinberg, has been responsible for crafting some of the most iconic and timeless hits in the music industry. With a career spanning over four decades, he has worked with a diverse range of artists, from pop queens to rock bands, leaving an indelible mark on the music scene.

Steinberg’s journey in the music industry began in the late 1970s when he moved to Los Angeles and started writing songs for various artists. His breakthrough came in 1983 when he co-wrote the hit single “Gloria” for the band, Laura Branigan. This success propelled him into the spotlight and opened doors for him to work with some of the biggest names in the industry.

One of Steinberg’s most notable collaborations was with the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna. He co-wrote and produced her hit singles “Like a Virgin” and “Live to Tell”, which both topped the charts and solidified Madonna’s status as a pop icon. The success of these songs also earned Steinberg his first Grammy nomination.

The 1980s also saw Steinberg working with the all-female rock band, The Bangles. He co-wrote their breakthrough hit “Manic Monday”, which became a global sensation and reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song was just the beginning of their successful partnership, as Steinberg went on to co-write other hits for the band, including “Eternal Flame” and “In Your Room”.

In addition to working with established artists, Steinberg also had a knack for discovering new talent and helping them reach their full potential. One such artist was Whitney Houston, whom Steinberg helped launch into stardom with the song “How Will I Know”. The song became Houston’s first number one hit and marked the beginning of her successful music career.

Steinberg’s talent for crafting hits was not limited to just one genre. He also worked with R&B singer JoJo, co-writing her debut single “Leave (Get Out)” which became a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He also collaborated with the legendary group, Heart, on their hit song “Alone”, which reached number one on the charts and earned Steinberg his second Grammy nomination.

The 1990s saw Steinberg continue his successful run with collaborations with artists such as Cyndi Lauper and Demi Lovato. He co-wrote Lauper’s hit single “I Drove All Night” and Lovato’s hit song “Skyscraper”, both of which became fan favorites and helped solidify the artists’ careers.

Steinberg’s ability to create timeless and impactful music has not gone unnoticed. He has received multiple Grammy nominations and has won numerous awards, including a BMI Songwriter of the Year award. His songs have been featured in countless movies, TV shows, and commercials, cementing his place in music history.

Steinberg’s impact on the music industry goes beyond just his hit songs. He has also mentored and inspired countless aspiring songwriters and producers, passing down his knowledge and expertise to the next generation of music creators.

In a career spanning over four decades, William E. Steinberg has left an indelible mark on the music industry. His songs continue to be played and loved by fans all over the world, and his legacy will live on for generations to come. From Madonna to Demi Lovato, Steinberg’s contributions to the music scene will always be remembered and cherished.
