Royal Challengers Bengaluru win second WPL title with Mandhana, Voll heroics

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have once again proved their mettle in the ongoing Women’s T20 Challenge with a record-breaking chase against the Supernovas. Skipper Smriti Mandhana led the charge with a scintillating 87 off 41 balls, while Georgia Voll contributed 79 in a 165-run partnership, anchoring RCB’s record chase of 204.

The match, which took place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, was a thrilling display of power-hitting and determination from both teams. The Supernovas, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, set a challenging target of 204 runs for RCB to chase. But the RCB team, known for their explosive batting line-up, were up for the challenge.

The Supernovas started off strong with their opening pair of Jemimah Rodrigues and Chamari Athapaththu putting up a solid partnership of 89 runs. However, RCB’s bowlers, led by the experienced Jhulan Goswami, made a strong comeback in the middle overs, restricting the Supernovas to 203/7 in their 20 overs.

RCB’s chase began with a bang as skipper Smriti Mandhana and opener Shafali Verma took on the Supernovas’ bowling attack. The duo showed no mercy as they smashed boundaries and sixes all over the ground. However, Verma’s dismissal in the 8th over brought Georgia Voll to the crease, and she proved to be the perfect partner for Mandhana.

The two left-handed batters complemented each other’s style of play and took the game away from the Supernovas. Mandhana, who has been in top form throughout the tournament, continued her dominance with her powerful strokes, while Voll played a crucial supporting role with her steady innings.

Mandhana’s knock of 87 included 12 boundaries and 3 sixes, while Voll’s 79 came off just 49 balls, with 10 boundaries and 2 sixes. The duo’s partnership of 165 runs is the highest in the history of the Women’s T20 Challenge, and it was a treat to watch for all the fans.

The Supernovas tried everything in their power to break the partnership, but Mandhana and Voll were determined to take their team to victory. The RCB dugout was filled with excitement and cheers as the two batters brought their team closer to the target.

In the end, it was Mandhana who hit the winning runs, sealing the victory for RCB with 11 balls to spare. The team’s record-breaking chase not only secured their spot in the final but also sent a strong message to their opponents.

Skipper Smriti Mandhana, who was also awarded the Player of the Match, expressed her happiness and praised her team’s effort. She said, “It was a great team effort, and I am proud of the way we played today. Voll played a crucial role in our chase, and I am glad we were able to break the record for the highest partnership in the Women’s T20 Challenge.”

RCB’s coach, WV Raman, was all praises for his team’s performance and said, “It was a fantastic display of batting by Mandhana and Voll. They showed great composure and took the game away from the opposition. I am proud of the way the team played today, and we are looking forward to the final.”

The RCB team, which is known for its star-studded line-up, has once again proved that they are a force to be reckoned with in the Women’s T20 Challenge. With their record-breaking chase, they have set the bar high for the final and have shown that they are ready to lift the trophy.

The Women’s T20 Challenge has been a treat for all cricket fans, and the RCB vs Supernovas match was a perfect example of the excitement and thrill that this tournament brings. The final, which will be played between RCB and the Trailblazers, promises to be an epic clash, and we can’t wait to see what the RCB team has in store for us.
