Government revokes GRAP III as air pollution lowers in Delhi NCR

The air quality in Delhi has been a major concern for quite some time now. With the city being one of the most polluted in the world, it has been a constant battle to improve the air quality and make it safe for its residents. However, there is some good news on the horizon. The air quality index in Delhi, which was recorded at a staggering 380 on Thursday, has shown a significant improvement and was recorded at 236 at 4 pm on Friday.

This improvement in the air quality index is a welcome change for the people of Delhi. It is a result of the collective efforts of the government, citizens, and various organizations who have been working tirelessly to combat the pollution levels in the city. The decrease in the air quality index is a positive sign and a step in the right direction towards a cleaner and healthier Delhi.

The air quality index is a measure of the level of pollutants in the air. It ranges from 0 to 500, with 0 being the best and 500 being the worst. A reading of 380 on Thursday was a cause for concern, as it fell under the “very poor” category. This level of pollution can have severe health implications, especially for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems. However, the drop to 236 on Friday has brought the air quality index to the “poor” category, which is still not ideal but a significant improvement nonetheless.

The improvement in the air quality index can be attributed to various factors. The first and foremost being the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The GRAP is a set of measures that are implemented based on the severity of pollution levels. These measures include a ban on construction activities, restrictions on the use of diesel generators, and a hike in parking fees to discourage the use of private vehicles. The strict implementation of these measures has played a crucial role in reducing the pollution levels in the city.

Moreover, the recent spell of rain in Delhi has also helped in improving the air quality. The rain acts as a natural cleanser, washing away the pollutants from the air and making it cleaner. The drop in temperature has also helped in reducing the formation of smog, which is a major contributor to the high pollution levels in Delhi.

The citizens of Delhi have also played a vital role in this improvement. With awareness campaigns and initiatives like the “Odd-Even” scheme, people have become more conscious of their actions and their impact on the environment. The use of public transport and carpooling has increased, reducing the number of vehicles on the road and thus, the pollution levels. The citizens have also taken up the responsibility of planting trees and maintaining green spaces in the city, which helps in purifying the air.

The improvement in the air quality index is a positive sign, but it is not the end of the battle. The pollution levels in Delhi are still a cause for concern, and there is a long way to go before the city can be considered safe. The government and citizens must continue their efforts to sustain this improvement and work towards achieving a cleaner and greener Delhi.

It is heartening to see that the efforts put in by everyone have yielded positive results. It is a testament to the fact that when we work together towards a common goal, we can achieve great things. The drop in the air quality index is a ray of hope for the people of Delhi, and it should motivate us to continue our efforts towards a pollution-free city.

In conclusion, the improvement in the air quality index in Delhi is a step in the right direction. It is a result of the combined efforts of the government, citizens, and various organizations. However, we must not become complacent and continue our efforts to make Delhi a cleaner and healthier place to live in. Let us all work together towards a pollution-free future for our city.
