‘Death to America’: Leftist Columbia University Group Responds to Strikes on Iran’s Islamic Regime

The recent strikes on Iran’s Islamic Regime by the United States and Israel have sparked a strong response from the student group Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD). In a controversial move, the group shared a post on their social media account with the words “Death to America” written in Persian.

This provocative message has drawn criticism from many, but CUAD stands by their actions, citing their passionate support for the Palestinian cause and their opposition to what they see as Western imperialism. However, this message of “Death to America” goes beyond mere political statements. It is a dangerous and hostile sentiment that has no place in our society.

CUAD’s posting of “Death to America” is not only alarming, but also deeply concerning. It is a clear display of hatred and aggression towards a nation that has long been a symbol of freedom and democracy. This type of rhetoric is harmful and has no place in a community that values diversity and inclusivity.

Moreover, this post is a direct attack on the values and beliefs of Columbia University, a prestigious institution known for its commitment to intellectual discourse and global understanding. As students of this esteemed university, we should strive to promote peace and understanding, rather than promoting divisive and hateful messages.

It is important to note that the strikes on Iran’s Islamic Regime were carried out in response to their continuous acts of aggression and threats towards other nations. The United States and Israel were simply defending themselves and their allies, and this does not warrant a call for death and destruction.

CUAD’s posting of “Death to America” also displays a lack of understanding of the complex political situation in the Middle East. By supporting the Islamic Regime of Iran, they are indirectly supporting a regime that has been accused of committing human rights violations and supporting terrorist groups. We must not forget that the real victims of this regime are the Iranian people themselves.

Furthermore, this message of “Death to America” completely ignores the fact that the United States has been a key supporter of humanitarian aid and development in many countries, including Iran. The U.S. has provided millions of dollars in aid to Iran to support healthcare, education, and infrastructure. To call for death to such a benevolent nation is not only irrational, but also ungrateful.

It is understandable that CUAD, as a student group, has a right to express their opinions and advocate for causes they believe in. However, their actions should not be at the expense of promoting hostility and division within the community. As members of a diverse and inclusive university, it is our responsibility to promote peace and understanding, rather than promoting messages of hate and violence.

In addition, the use of a language other than English, specifically Persian, in their post further exacerbates the issue. It is a deliberate attempt to exclude and alienate those who may not understand the language, while also promoting a message of hate towards a specific group of people.

As a community, we must stand together against messages of hate and violence. We must promote an environment of mutual respect and understanding, rather than promoting divisive rhetoric. Columbia University has always been a beacon of progress and social change, and it is our duty to continue that legacy.

In conclusion, the recent posting of “Death to America” by the student group Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) is a concerning and harmful display of hatred and aggression. It goes against the values of our university and promotes a message of violence towards a nation that has long been a symbol of freedom and democracy. We must stand together and reject such divisive language and instead, promote peace and understanding within our community.
