US Army Secretary set to visit India for first bilateral talks

The Indian government is set to welcome a 13-member delegation from the United States to discuss military collaboration between the two nations. The delegation, led by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, will meet with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and the US.

The meeting, which is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, will focus on various aspects of military cooperation, including a proposed $93 million arms deal for Excalibur artillery and Javelin missiles. This deal is a testament to the growing trust and friendship between the two nations, and it is expected to further enhance the defence capabilities of India.

The Excalibur artillery is a precision-guided, extended-range projectile that can accurately hit targets up to 40 km away. This will significantly enhance the Indian Army’s firepower and provide them with a decisive edge in any combat situation. The Javelin missiles, on the other hand, are one of the most advanced anti-tank weapons in the world. With a range of 4 km, these missiles are capable of destroying heavily armored vehicles, bunkers, and fortifications. This acquisition will undoubtedly bolster India’s defence capabilities and strengthen its position as a regional power.

The proposed arms deal is just one of the many areas of military collaboration that will be discussed during the meeting. The two nations will also explore opportunities for joint military exercises, training programs, and technology transfer. This will not only enhance the capabilities of the Indian armed forces but also promote greater interoperability between the two nations.

The meeting between the two delegations is a testament to the strong and enduring partnership between India and the US. Over the years, the two nations have worked closely on various issues, including defence, trade, and counter-terrorism. The US has been a key ally in India’s fight against terrorism, and the two nations have shared intelligence and expertise to combat this global threat.

The US has also been a major contributor to India’s defence modernization efforts. In recent years, India has acquired several advanced military equipment from the US, including Apache and Chinook helicopters, P-8I maritime surveillance aircraft, and M777 howitzers. These acquisitions have significantly enhanced the Indian armed forces’ capabilities and have strengthened the strategic partnership between the two nations.

The meeting between the two delegations is also significant in the wake of the ongoing border tensions between India and China. The US has been a vocal supporter of India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and this meeting will further strengthen the US-India strategic partnership in the face of growing Chinese aggression.

The $93 million arms deal for Excalibur artillery and Javelin missiles is a clear indication of the US’s commitment to supporting India’s defence needs. This deal will not only enhance India’s defence capabilities but also create job opportunities and boost the country’s economy. It is a win-win situation for both nations and a testament to the strong and growing bond between India and the US.

The meeting between the two delegations is a significant step towards further strengthening the strategic partnership between India and the US. It is a reflection of the shared values and interests of the two nations and their commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region. The proposed arms deal for Excalibur artillery and Javelin missiles is just the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration between the two nations in the field of defence.

In conclusion, the 13-member delegation’s visit to India is a significant event that highlights the strong and enduring partnership between the two nations. The proposed arms deal for Excalibur artillery and Javelin missiles is a testament to the growing trust and friendship between India and the US. This deal will not only enhance India’s defence capabilities but also promote greater cooperation and interoperability between the two nations. It is a step towards a stronger and more prosperous future for both India and the US.
