Trumpet player, 95, still going strong in the band he’s been in for 87 years

“Trumpeter Eric Davies, 95, first played music aged eight in the last Christmas before World War Two and is still going strong. He puts his long life down to never drinking or smoking.”

At 95 years old, Eric Davies has experienced more life than most people can even imagine. From his humble beginnings in a small town in England, to becoming a world-renowned trumpeter, Eric’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. But what truly sets him apart is not just his musical talent, but his unwavering dedication to a healthy lifestyle – a lifestyle that he believes has played a key role in his longevity.

Born in 1925, Eric first picked up the trumpet at the young age of eight. It was a gift from his parents for Christmas – a time that is of particular significance to him, as it was the last one before the outbreak of World War Two. Music quickly became his passion and he honed his skills, playing in local bands and performing at various events.

As the war raged on, Eric’s life took an unexpected turn when he was drafted into the Royal Air Force at just 18 years old. He served bravely for six years, flying missions over enemy territory, and was eventually awarded with a medal of honour for his service. But even in the midst of war, Eric never forgot his love for music. Whenever he had a chance, he would take out his trumpet and play, bringing joy and comfort to his fellow soldiers.

After the war, Eric’s musical career took off. He joined a well-known band and toured all across Europe, playing at some of the most prestigious venues and entertaining audiences from all walks of life. But as he gained fame and success, he never let it get to his head. He remained humble, always grateful for the opportunities that his talent had provided him.

As the years went by, many of his colleagues and friends in the music industry succumbed to the temptations of fame and fortune – drinking and smoking their way into an early grave. But not Eric. He made a conscious decision to abstain from these vices, believing that they would only hinder his abilities and put his health at risk. And it seems that he was right.

At 95 years old, Eric is still playing the trumpet and performing in front of live audiences. His passion for music has not waned, and his talent continues to impress. But more importantly, he is living proof that a healthy lifestyle can have a profound impact on one’s ability to not only live a long life, but also to enjoy it to the fullest.

In a world where alcohol and smoking are often glorified, Eric stands out as a shining example of the power of discipline and self-control. He has defied the odds and shown that it is possible to live a long and fulfilling life without giving in to harmful habits. And for that, he has become an inspiration to us all.

As we reflect on Eric’s incredible journey, let us be reminded of the importance of taking care of our health. Whether it’s through healthy eating, regular exercise, or simply saying no to destructive behaviors, we should all strive to make positive choices that will benefit us in the long run. After all, if a 95-year-old trumpeter can do it, then surely we can too.

So here’s to Eric Davies – a true testament to the saying, “age is just a number.” May his music continue to touch the hearts of many and his story inspire generations to come.
