NMSU alumna, composer receives Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts

Nacha Mendez, a nationally acclaimed singer, composer and New Mexico State University alumna, has been chosen by New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan as the newest member of the New Mexico Arts Commission. This prestigious appointment is a testament to Mendez’s talent and dedication to the arts, and it is a source of great pride for the entire state.

Mendez, a native of New Mexico, has been making waves in the music industry for years with her unique blend of traditional and contemporary Latin American music. Her powerful vocals and soulful compositions have earned her critical acclaim and a devoted fan base. But her journey to success was not an easy one.

Born and raised in Las Cruces, Mendez discovered her love for music at a young age. She honed her skills by performing at local events and festivals, and it wasn’t long before her talent caught the attention of the music world. After graduating from New Mexico State University with a degree in music, Mendez embarked on a career that would take her to stages all over the country.

Her music is a reflection of her multicultural background, blending elements of Mexican, Spanish, and Native American influences. Her songs are not only a celebration of her heritage, but also a way to connect with people from all walks of life. Mendez’s music is a powerful force that brings people together and transcends language and cultural barriers.

In addition to her successful music career, Mendez is also a passionate advocate for the arts. She has been a vocal supporter of arts education in schools and has worked tirelessly to promote the importance of the arts in our communities. Her dedication to this cause has not gone unnoticed, and it is one of the reasons why Governor Lujan has chosen her to serve on the New Mexico Arts Commission.

The New Mexico Arts Commission is a state agency that works to promote and support the arts in New Mexico. Its members are appointed by the governor and serve as advocates for the arts in their communities. Mendez’s appointment is a significant one, as she will bring a unique perspective and valuable insights to the commission.

In a statement, Governor Lujan expressed her excitement about Mendez’s appointment, saying, “Nacha Mendez is a true ambassador for the arts in New Mexico. Her talent and passion for the arts are an inspiration to us all, and I am confident that she will be a valuable addition to the New Mexico Arts Commission.”

Mendez herself is thrilled about this new opportunity to serve her home state. “I am honored and humbled to be chosen as a member of the New Mexico Arts Commission,” she said. “I am committed to promoting the arts and ensuring that they continue to thrive in our communities. I look forward to working with my fellow commission members to make a positive impact on the arts in New Mexico.”

Mendez’s appointment is not only a recognition of her talent and achievements, but also a testament to the vibrant and diverse arts scene in New Mexico. The state has a rich cultural heritage, and artists like Mendez play a crucial role in preserving and promoting it. With her new role on the New Mexico Arts Commission, Mendez will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the arts in her home state.

As a nationally acclaimed singer, composer, and now a member of the New Mexico Arts Commission, Nacha Mendez is a shining example of the talent and potential that exists in New Mexico. Her success story is an inspiration to aspiring artists and a source of pride for all New Mexicans. We congratulate Mendez on this well-deserved honor and look forward to seeing her continue to make a positive impact in the world of music and the arts.
