The Welsh farmer who’s ‘not even a chef’ but people are travelling across the globe for her food

As I sat down to write this article, I couldn’t help but reflect on the journey that has brought me to this point. It’s a journey that has been unexpected, but one that has filled me with joy and a sense of accomplishment. You see, I never imagined that I would be running a successful restaurant, let alone be considered a chef. I have no formal training, and I’ve never worked in a restaurant kitchen. Yet here I am, defying all odds and succeeding in this industry. It may have taken me by surprise, but I couldn’t be happier with where I am today.

My story starts like that of many others – with a passion for food. Growing up, I was always fascinated by the art of cooking. I spent hours experimenting in the kitchen, trying out new recipes and techniques. But it was just a hobby, something I did to relax and unwind. I never thought it could turn into a career.

However, as fate would have it, a few years ago, my partner and I decided to take a leap of faith and open a small restaurant in our neighborhood. We had no prior experience in the food industry, but we were determined to make it work. We wanted to create a cozy and welcoming space where people could come to enjoy delicious homemade meals at affordable prices. And so, with a lot of hard work and dedication, we opened our doors to the public.

In the beginning, it was tough. We faced numerous challenges and obstacles along the way. We had to learn everything from scratch – from managing inventory and finances to creating a menu that would appeal to our customers. But we didn’t let that discourage us. We kept pushing forward, learning and growing as we went along. And slowly but surely, our restaurant started to gain popularity.

One of the things that set us apart was our commitment to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. We wanted to support our local farmers and businesses while also providing our customers with the best quality food. It was a decision that not only made us stand out but also helped us build a strong bond with our community.

But perhaps the most surprising aspect of our success was my newfound role as a chef. As someone with no formal training or experience, I never imagined myself leading a kitchen. But with the support and guidance of my partner and our talented team, I embraced the challenge and stepped into the role with enthusiasm. I started to experiment with different flavors and techniques, and before I knew it, I was creating dishes that not only tasted delicious but also looked beautiful. It was a surreal experience, and it made me realize that sometimes, the best things in life are the ones that come unexpectedly.

Today, our restaurant is thriving, and I couldn’t be prouder. We have built a loyal customer base, and our little eatery has become a favorite among locals. People often ask me how we’ve managed to achieve this level of success without any formal training or experience, and my answer is simple – we just do what we love. We pour our hearts and souls into every dish we create, and we genuinely care about our customers’ experience. I believe that is what makes a difference in this industry – the passion and love you put into your work.

Of course, our journey is far from over, and we are constantly learning and evolving. But looking back, I am grateful for the surprise this experience has brought me. It has taught me that sometimes the greatest things in life come when you least expect them. It has also reaffirmed my belief that with determination, hard work, and a little bit of luck, anything is possible.

To anyone out there with a dream, my message is simple – don’t be afraid to take a chance and follow your passion. You never know where it might lead you. And who knows, like me, you might just surprise yourself with what you can achieve.
