78% of ₹1,40,000 cr value of production in FY25 to be contributed by the DPSU

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has time and again emphasized on the importance of self-reliance and indigenous production in the defence sector. In line with this vision, the Defence Minister recently conducted a review of the performance of eight Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and urged them to expedite the production of defence products.

The review meeting, held on Wednesday, was attended by top officials of the eight DPSUs namely Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE), Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), and Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI).

During the meeting, the Defence Minister praised the DPSUs for their contribution towards the defence sector and highlighted their role in making India self-reliant in defence production. He stressed on the need to enhance the production capacity of these companies to meet the growing demands of the Indian Armed Forces.

In order to expedite the production of defence products, Rajnath Singh urged the DPSUs to focus on technological advancements and innovation. He emphasized that technology has a crucial role in achieving self-sufficiency in the defence sector and the DPSUs should not shy away from collaborating with private companies to enhance their technological capabilities.

The Defence Minister also addressed the issue of delays in procurement and production, stating that it impacts the defence preparedness of the country. He urged the DPSUs to minimize these delays and ensure timely delivery of products.

Taking note of the current global situation, where many countries have imposed sanctions on defence exports, Rajnath Singh emphasized the need for increasing the export capacity of DPSUs. He stated that this would not only boost the country’s economy but also enhance its standing as a global defence exporter.

In addition, the Defence Minister also stressed on the importance of quality control in the production of defence products. He urged the DPSUs to maintain the highest standards of quality to ensure the safety and security of our armed forces.

The meeting also brought to light the role of DPSUs in the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and the need for them to actively participate in it. Rajnath Singh assured the DPSUs of full support and cooperation from the government in their efforts to boost domestic production and reduce dependency on imports.

The review meeting was seen as a positive step towards achieving the government’s goal of self-reliance in defence production. The Defence Minister’s motivation and encouragement have given a much-needed boost to the DPSUs to expedite their production and contribute towards the country’s defence preparedness.

In conclusion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s review of the performance of eight DPSUs has once again highlighted the government’s commitment towards making India self-reliant in the defence sector. The meeting has set the tone for increased collaboration, innovation and quality control, and is sure to pave the way for a stronger and more self-sufficient Indian defence industry. The government’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ can only be achieved with the collective efforts of DPSUs, private companies, and the strong support of the government. The review serves as a reminder of the crucial role DPSUs play in safeguarding our nation, and their contribution towards achieving this goal is commendable.
