Former FBI Director James Comey Deletes Instagram Post Saying to ’86 47′

Former FBI Director James Comey has recently sparked controversy and concern with a now-deleted Instagram post. The post, which called to “86 47,” has been interpreted by some as a violent threat against President Trump. In the face of criticism, Comey has since removed the post and issued an apology for any confusion or misunderstanding.

The incident began when Comey shared a photo on his Instagram account with the caption “Georgetown Hoyas vs Butler Bulldogs 86 47.” This seemingly harmless post caused a stir among social media users, who were quick to point out that “86” can be slang for killing or getting rid of someone, and “47” could refer to the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump.

The implications of this post were alarming to many, especially in the current political climate where tensions between the Trump administration and the FBI are already high. For a former director of the FBI to make what could be interpreted as a threat against the President was seen as highly inappropriate and unprofessional.

However, before any further backlash could occur, Comey swiftly deleted the post and issued a statement explaining his intentions. He clarified that the numbers “86” and “47” were in reference to the scores of the Georgetown vs Butler basketball game, and the post was simply meant to support his alma mater’s team.

In his apology, Comey expressed regret for any confusion caused by his choice of words. He also made it clear that he does not condone violence in any form and was not making any kind of threat against the President or anyone else. As a public figure, Comey acknowledged the importance of being mindful of his words and the potential impact they may have.

The fact that Comey deleted the post and took responsibility for his actions speaks volumes about his character and integrity. It takes a big person to admit their mistake and apologize for it, especially in such a public manner. This incident only highlights Comey’s commitment to transparency and accountability, qualities that are essential for someone in a position of power.

It is also worth noting that Comey’s choice of words may have been influenced by his past career in law enforcement. The term “86” is commonly used in the service industry to indicate that an item is no longer available, but it is also a code used by police officers to call for backup or assistance. This could perhaps explain why Comey used the term without considering its potential alternate meaning.

While the situation may have been blown out of proportion by some, it does raise valid concerns about the impact of language in today’s society. In the age of social media, where words and posts can easily be misinterpreted, it is important for individuals to be mindful of what they say and how it may be perceived by others.

In conclusion, James Comey’s deleted Instagram post has caused a stir and sparked important conversations about the power of words. However, it is clear that there was no malicious intent behind his post, and he should not be vilified for a simple misunderstanding. His prompt apology and explanation should be commended, and we should all strive to be more mindful of our words and actions in a society where communication is instantaneous and far-reaching.
