Dem Rep. Garcia: ‘Shameful’ Trump Administration Arrested Newark Mayor

Representative Robert Garcia (D-CA) did not hold back in his criticism of the Trump administration’s recent actions at the Delaney Hall ICE detention center. On Friday, during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Beat,” Garcia expressed his outrage over the arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, calling it “shameful.”

The incident, which took place earlier this week, has sparked widespread condemnation from politicians and activists alike. Mayor Baraka was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers while he was attempting to visit detained immigrants at the facility. According to reports, he was denied access and then detained himself for several hours before being released.

In a passionate interview with host Ari Melber, Representative Garcia did not mince words when it came to his feelings towards the Trump administration’s handling of the situation.

“It is absolutely shameful that the Trump administration would stoop to such levels to silence and intimidate those who are standing up for immigrant rights,” Garcia stated. “This is a clear abuse of power and it needs to be called out for what it is.”

He went on to emphasize the importance of allowing elected officials to carry out their duties without fear of retribution or intimidation. “Mayor Baraka was simply trying to exercise his right as an elected leader to visit and provide support to those being held at the detention center,” Garcia said. “For him to be treated like a criminal is unacceptable.”

Garcia also took aim at the broader issue of immigration detention policies under the Trump administration. “We have seen time and time again the callous and inhumane treatment of immigrants at the hands of ICE,” he noted. “It is a disgrace that this is happening in our country.”

The representative’s comments are just the latest in a series of criticisms against the Trump administration’s immigration policies. Many have pointed out the increasing number of arrests and detentions of immigrants under the current administration, particularly in light of President Trump’s hardline stance on immigration and his calls for stricter border control measures.

“This is just another example of the Trump administration’s blatant disregard for human rights and the rule of law,” Garcia stated. “We cannot stand by and allow these unjust and inhumane actions to continue.”

He also called on his fellow politicians and the American public to take a stand against these policies. “We must all speak out and demand that our leaders uphold the values of our nation and treat all individuals with dignity and respect,” he urged.

Garcia’s words have resonated with many, and his message has been widely shared on social media. Many have praised him for speaking out against what they see as a violation of human rights.

In conclusion, Representative Garcia’s strong words on MSNBC’s “The Beat” serve as a powerful reminder of the need to stand up against injustice and defend the rights of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status. He has shown that he is not afraid to speak out against the Trump administration’s policies and will continue to fight for the rights of immigrants and their families. Let us all join him in condemning these actions and working towards a more just and humane immigration system.
