Weissmann: AG Bondi, Press Sec Leavitt Comments Leading to ‘Constitutional Crisis’

Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann has raised concerns about the current state of affairs in the United States, stating that recent comments made by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Attorney General Pam Bondi have led to a potential constitutional crisis.

In an interview on MSNBC’s “Deadline,” Weissmann expressed his worries about the impact of the statements made by Leavitt and Bondi. He stated that their comments have the potential to undermine the very foundation of the US Constitution and the rule of law.

Leavitt, in a recent press briefing, defended President Trump’s decision to commute the sentence of his longtime ally Roger Stone, who was convicted of lying to Congress and witness tampering. She stated that Stone was a victim of the “Russia hoax” and that the president had the authority to grant clemency.

Similarly, Attorney General Bondi, in an interview with Fox News, also defended the president’s decision and criticized the prosecutors involved in Stone’s case. She accused them of being politically motivated and stated that they had “abused their power.”

Weissmann, who served as a prosecutor in the special counsel’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, expressed his disappointment with the comments made by Leavitt and Bondi. He stated that their remarks were not only misleading but also dangerous for the country’s democracy.

The former prosecutor emphasized that the US Constitution was designed to prevent abuses of power and ensure that no one is above the law. He stated that the president’s use of his clemency powers to protect his allies and attack his enemies goes against the very principles of the Constitution.

Weissmann’s concerns are shared by many legal experts and scholars who have also raised alarms about the potential consequences of the president’s actions. They argue that the use of clemency powers for political purposes undermines the integrity of the justice system and sets a dangerous precedent for future administrations.

The comments made by Leavitt and Bondi have only added fuel to the fire, with many calling for accountability and transparency from the Trump administration. They argue that the president and his allies must be held accountable for their actions and that the rule of law must be upheld.

The potential constitutional crisis that Weissmann has warned about is a serious matter that cannot be ignored. It is a wake-up call for all Americans to stand up for the principles of democracy and demand accountability from their leaders.

The US Constitution is the cornerstone of American democracy, and it is the responsibility of every citizen to protect and defend it. The actions of the president and his allies must not be allowed to undermine the very foundation of our democracy.

It is time for the American people to come together and demand that their leaders uphold the rule of law and respect the principles of the Constitution. We must not let political agendas and personal interests take precedence over the well-being of our nation.

In conclusion, the comments made by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Attorney General Pam Bondi have raised concerns about a potential constitutional crisis in the United States. Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann has warned about the dangers of such a crisis and called for accountability and transparency from the Trump administration. It is now up to the American people to stand up for the principles of democracy and ensure that the rule of law is upheld. We must not let political interests and personal agendas undermine the very foundation of our democracy.
