Trump appoints 2 from Fox News to Kennedy Center board

In a move that has sparked both surprise and controversy, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Fox News host Laura Ingraham and Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo to the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This comes just weeks after Trump fired the center’s president and replaced the entire board of trustees, effectively taking over the renowned cultural institution.

Trump, who also named himself as chairman of the organization, stated that these appointments complete his selection for the board. He also announced that special U.S. envoy Richard Grenell will serve as the interim executive director of the center.

Since taking office on January 20th, Trump has been making significant changes to the government, including firing and sidelining hundreds of civil servants and top officials in an effort to downsize the bureaucracy and install more loyalists. Now, with the appointment of Ingraham and Bartiromo, he is further cementing his control over the Kennedy Center.

The Kennedy Center, known for its signature Kennedy Center Honors performances, is home to the National Symphony Orchestra and the Washington National Opera. The annual Kennedy Center Honors is considered the most prestigious award for achievement in the arts. However, during his first term in office, Trump declined to attend the event. In December, at the last show attended by former President Joe Biden, the center’s leaders made it clear that Trump was welcome to attend in the future.

This recent move by Trump has raised questions about the future of the Kennedy Center and its role in promoting and supporting the arts. The decision to appoint two prominent figures from a conservative news network has been met with criticism from many in the artistic community, who fear that the center will become politicized and lose its focus on the arts.

In fact, the hit musical Hamilton has already announced that it will be canceling its run at the center following Trump’s takeover. This decision is a clear indication of the concerns that many have about the direction in which the Kennedy Center is headed.

However, Trump’s appointments have also received support from some who see it as a positive step towards bringing diversity and balance to the center. Ingraham and Bartiromo are both successful and accomplished women in their respective fields, and their addition to the board may bring new perspectives and ideas to the organization.

Moreover, Trump’s takeover of the Kennedy Center may ultimately prove to be a beneficial move for the institution. With his business background and experience in managing large organizations, Trump may bring a fresh approach to the center, ensuring its long-term sustainability and success.

It is important to remember that the Kennedy Center is a national treasure and an important symbol of American culture. While the recent developments may have caused some concern, it is crucial to have an open mind and give the new leadership a chance to prove themselves. The arts should not be a political battleground, and it is our responsibility as citizens to support and appreciate the value of artistic expression.

In conclusion, the appointment of Laura Ingraham and Maria Bartiromo to the board of the Kennedy Center is a significant development that has sparked both praise and criticism. Only time will tell the impact of this decision on the future of the center. However, it is important to remain positive and hopeful that the Kennedy Center will continue to thrive and fulfill its mission of celebrating and promoting the arts.
