‘Playful’ Prince William ‘steps out of character’ with ‘mischievous’ gesture

Prince William, King Charles and Queen Camilla were among the distinguished guests who attended the annual Garter Day service at Windsor Castle on Monday. The prestigious event, which is held every year on the third Monday of June, is a celebration of the Order of the Garter, the oldest and most senior order of chivalry in Britain.

The royal trio, along with other members of the royal family, arrived at the castle in their traditional velvet robes and plumed hats, adding a touch of regal elegance to the occasion. The sun was shining and the atmosphere was filled with excitement as the guests made their way to St. George’s Chapel for the service.

The Order of the Garter was founded in 1348 by King Edward III and is limited to only 24 members, who are chosen by the monarch for their outstanding service to the country. This year, two new members were added to the prestigious order – Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, the husband of Princess Anne, and Lady Mary Fagan, the former Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire.

As the service began, the guests were treated to a spectacular display of pageantry, with the Knights of the Garter processing into the chapel in their full regalia. The Queen, who is the Sovereign of the Order, was accompanied by Prince William and King Charles, who are both Knights of the Garter, and Queen Camilla, who is a Lady of the Garter.

The service was conducted by the Dean of Windsor, the Right Reverend David Conner, and included traditional hymns and prayers. The Most Noble Order of the Garter is a symbol of the British monarchy’s long history and the service was a reminder of the important role it plays in the country’s heritage.

After the service, the guests made their way to the grand reception at the State Apartments, where they were joined by other members of the royal family, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex. The reception was a chance for the guests to catch up and enjoy each other’s company in the beautiful surroundings of Windsor Castle.

The annual Garter Day service is not only a celebration of the Order of the Garter, but also a chance for the royal family to come together and show their support for each other. It was heartwarming to see Prince William, King Charles and Queen Camilla, who are often busy with their royal duties, taking the time to attend this special event and honor the traditions of the monarchy.

The presence of the royal family at the Garter Day service also highlights their commitment to serving their country and their dedication to upholding the values of the Order of the Garter. It is a reminder that the monarchy is not just about pomp and ceremony, but also about service and duty.

As the guests departed from Windsor Castle, it was clear that the annual Garter Day service had been a resounding success. The sun had set on a day filled with tradition, pageantry and royal camaraderie. Prince William, King Charles and Queen Camilla, along with the other members of the royal family, had once again shown their unwavering support for the Order of the Garter and their commitment to upholding the values of the British monarchy. Long may this tradition continue.
